Background information

What is Automatic Double Tracking?

Automatic double tracking, or A.D.T. is the process where we copy a signal and make it sound like the singer or band member overdubbed the exact same thing over the original track. Like double tracking, but cheaper and easier.

Project Title: An investigation into Automatic Double Tracking (ADT) including development of vst plugin using the Steinberg SDK

Project Description:

To fully investigate the techniques involved in ADT I intend to;

·       Research the history/background of the different techniques associated with ADT that have been developed in order to understand why, how and when they were developed etc

·       Research how the implementation of ADT and other such techniques have changed over time, from analog to digital plug-ins.

·       Develop and test source code for an ADT VST plug-in using Steinberg’s SDK

·       Reference both old and modern recordings that have made use of the techniques I have investigated to determine the success of the VST plug-in developed.

ADT ( Automatic/Artificial Double Tracking)

Automatic Double Tracking (ADT) is the emulation of the popular technique of 'double tracking' an instrument or vocals in studio recording.

The reason for double tracking is to create a 'richer' sound.
